Consumer Information: going strong in year 3

The rollout of spiritsEUROPE’s Memorandum of Understanding, the co-regulatory initiative to provide European consumers with product-speicific information, is in full swing. In recent weeks, new co-signees came from Belgium and Bulgaria. To say it in the words of Ralica Scorcheva-Slavova, President of spiritsBULGARIA: Joining the voluntary industry commitment, the Memorandum of Understanding,  early 2022 was a crucial step for the Bulgarian spirits sector. It’s our active contribution and an important step in our journey towards increasingly transparent consumer communication and the development of a responsible consumption culture for spirit drinks. Only well-informed consumer can make good choices.”

At the same time, the two-legged co-regulatory approach to consumer information, including online and on-label information, is increasingly attractive and is to some extend reflected in the EU COM’s ongoing public consultation on the FIC revision.

The launch and dynamic roll-out of the U-label platform is of course intricately linked to the ongoing interest in the topic and our commitment. To support spirits drinks producer in the successful implementation and rollout of the MoU, spiritsEUROPE organises monthly interaction points to discuss questions around (digital) consumer information. All interested spirits drinks producers are welcome!

As the sector is approaching the second milestone, a 50% rollout commitment across the EU, members of spiritsEUROPE already have an eye on the next year. In 2022, two out of 3 bottles of spirits drinks shall bear consumer information on label and online. Preparations to reach this milestone are in full swing!
