Delivering on Promises: spiritsEUROPE’s Progress Toward a More Sustainable and Responsible Future

Business and Marketing Practices and committed to two ambitious pledges: advancing consumer information through digital means and promoting responsible drinking across Europe. The implementation report is being published on the Code of conduct webpage of the European Commission.

The first pledge on “Empowering Consumers through Digital Labels” saw the successful launch and expansion thanks to the launch of the U-Label platform, which allows consumers to access clear and multilingual product information—ranging from nutrition to sustainability—via QR codes. Since its inception in 2021, U-Label has grown significantly, culminating in its 2024 integration with digital solutions leader Scantrust.  Country like Spain is leading with widespread implementation, showcasing how digital tools can promote transparency, informed choice, and sustainable packaging disposal practices, such as in Italy.

Under its second pledge, “Promoting Responsible Drinking Across the EU” spiritsEUROPE committed to ensuring that by 2030, every EU Member State would have dedicated responsible drinking initiatives available in all official EU languages. As of 2025, that goal is well underway: dedicated websites exist in 25 Member States, and widespread adoption of responsible messaging is evident on labels, ads, and point-of-sale materials. The recent impact report, The Power of Partnerships, highlights successful peer-driven and drink-driving campaigns, emphasizing a collaborative, consistent approach to encouraging moderation.

With both pledges either met or surpassed ahead of schedule, spiritsEUROPE continues to demonstrate strong leadership in sustainable business practices and social responsibility. The organisation remains committed to enhancing consumer information and encouraging healthier, more informed drinking habits across the EU.
