Introduction

spiritsEUROPE and its members are firmly committed to providing consumers with a broad range of accurate, relevant, and meaningful information on the spirits drinks they purchase. As consumers seek increasingly detailed information about the products they buy and consume, our sector has embarked on an ambitious journey to create a state-of-the-art consumer information ecosystem that delivers on these expectations.

In so doing, we follow a combined approach, providing information both via physical labels and digitally, via QR codes. The rapid uptake in digital technology use in recent years has clearly demonstrated that such a combined approach to consumer information – consumer information on-pack complemented by product-specific e-labels – is a powerful and feasible way forward for the labelling of food & drink products.

In particular, spiritsEUROPE and its members are committed to providing information to consumers in the following three areas:

  • Nutrition Information & Ingredient List: Energy (per 100ml and per portion), ingredient listing and nutritional information.
  • Moderate Consumption Guidance: Evidence-based, proportionate, and meaningful information to help consumers make informed choices if, when, and how to consume spirit drinks.

Sustainability Information: Packaging sorting and collection information, details on recycling and recycled content, and details on companies’ sustainability achievements and objectives.
