WTO Report on Boeing dispute - 13 October 2020

Following the publication of the WTO report on the Boeing dispute, spiritsEUROPE Director-General Ulrich Adam commented:

“For more than a year, spirits have been caught up in this dispute which is entirely unrelated to our sector and over which we have no control. Our producers have been faced with crippling tariffs on their products and huge levels of uncertainty. Due to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19, and worsened by recent travel and hospitality restrictions and localised lockdowns, we can no longer afford to foot the bill in such disputes. This dispute has been going on for far too long. Both sides need to work on a rapid resolution that will see a return to tariff-free transatlantic spirits trade.”

“As the EU considers how to respond to the Boeing report, we need to avoid further escalation and sincerely hope that the voice of reason and moderation will prevail, on both sides of the Atlantic. We urge both sides to go back to the negotiating table and to suspend tariffs on EU and US goods while negotiations are ongoing”.
