Support broadens across Europe for spirits sector’s labelling commitment

On 30 May 2024, the Association of Alcoholic Beverage Companies (ENEAP), represented by Efie Boura (Vice-President) and the Greek Federation of Spirits Producers (SEAOP), represented by Haris Mavrakis (President) co-signed the spiritsEUROPE Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – the spirits sector’s self-regulatory commitment on consumer information.

Like the other associations and major companies across Europe that have co-signed the MoU, ENEAP and SEAOP are committed to encouraging and supporting their member companies with specific guidance on the implementation of the principles set out in the Memorandum, including:

  • Energy information on the label per 100ml and per portion.
  • The list of ingredients (including raw material information for certain spirit categories) and nutritional values in a digital environment easily accessible by clicking on a barcode or QR code placed on the labels.

Through this MoU, companies involved in the production and marketing of alcoholic beverages are responding to citizens' expectations regarding the energy value and ingredients of alcoholic beverages.

By co-signing the Memorandum of Understanding in Greece, ENEAP and SEAOP are establishing best practices to which they are voluntarily committed, thereby setting a positive example for the industry as a whole.

As every year, spiritsEUROPE will publish its formal implementation report about the overall rollout progress of the MoU later this month.
