Trade must top EU agenda

On 25 June, alongside Trade Commissioner, Karel de Gucht, the European spirits drinks sector published “Spirits: a European Power House for Trade”, detailing the sector’s track record for exports over the past decade.

Eurostat data show that spirits exports outside the EU remain strong and this impressive export performance makes a significant contribution to the economy of European Member States. This was recognised by Commissionner De Gucht:

“...your industry is an excellent example of how European companies can prosper today and adapt for the future; and in doing so create jobs and business opportunities for the people of the European Union...”

“...The report we are launching today shows the lessons you can teach others about how to thrive in a global economy...”

“...the report shows how you can compete on quality - and indeed how quality is becoming ever more important to your export success...”

The sector seized the occasion to call on the new European Commission and European Parliament to support the continued success of the sector by putting trade firmly at the top of their agenda in the next five years.

We would like to thanks all those who came to the launch event and we invite you to click here to read the write-up of the event , here for a couple of pictures and here for a short video clip...
