Consumer information: a status report on rollout progress early next year

The end of 2020 marks a first important reporting deadline for the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the European Commission on consumer information on spirits drinks.

Our sector committed to 25% of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) to comply with the new guidelines on energy labelling. Thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of spirits producers large and small across Europe, we have seen a lot of progress on this in the past months.

Overall, 2020 has been a successful year for our MoU, with many new signatories coming on board – our reporting earlier this year confirmed that take-up has steadily increased, from multinational companies to SMEs alike. In addition, we have reinforced our work on providing digital labelling solutions – 2021 will be a crucial year in that regard.

We look forward to sharing our results with you in January 2021. In the meantime, keep an eye out for labels and QR codes on spirits shelves this Christmas season!
