Low-Risk Drinking Guidelines

Decades of evidence suggest that for most adults, the risks posed by responsible alcohol consumption are low, but it's vital to avoid excess—and for some, the best choice may be not to drink at all. Raising awareness is essential to empower consumers to make educated choices. For that purpose, health awareness information needs to be both easy to understand, yet sufficiently comprehensive (to adequately reflect the variety of consumers and the information they may seek or need, and depending on the situation they might be in at the moment of consumption).

Any guidance on moderate drinking must be evidence-based, proportionate & meaningful and consistent with the principles of ethical public health and responsible risk communication (i.e. information and not anxiety or fear).

Our sector if firmly committed to empower consumers to make informed and responsible choices. A future harmonised approach at the EU level should include a digital dimension. Indeed, public health matters remain very complex, therefore a digital platform, updated with the most current state of science, medical recommendations and data is the most accessible, easy to adjust, sustainable, and least cost-generating solution to provide consumers with complex and detailed information about alcoholic beverage products, as well as how to consume them responsibly.
