Key Data

The EU is a centre of excellence and major producer of spirits, particularly in premium categories, representing 11% of global spirits production in value - double its share of the world’s population. Supported by rich traditions, robust standards and constant innovation, EU spirits are known and appreciated around the world, with consumers curious to discover and enjoy them.

International trade will remain essential for the sustainable growth & long-term competitiveness of the EU spirits sector, with non-EU markets – particularly in Asia - representing the lion’s share in global spirits’ demand – both today and in the future.

In an increasingly uncertain world, companies need more options to reinforce their resilience and economic security. ASEAN, India, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America (particularly the Mercosur region) are emerging regions to which the EU needs to be closer for both economic and geostrategic reasons. This includes ensuring that we negotiate ambitious trade agreements providing for meaningful market access for both sides.
